Below you’ll find every plan, what credits mean in real minutes of audio, the free plan limits, and which plan is worth paying for.

How ElevenLabs credits work (and what they mean in minutes)
ElevenLabs charges in credits. For text to speech, ElevenLabs says it costs 1 credit per character (some API models cost 0.5 to 1 credit per character). Other tools use more:

In real minutes: one minute of spoken English is roughly 900 to 1,000 characters. That’s my own rule of thumb, not an official figure, but it gives you a useful estimate for text to speech:
- Free (10,000 credits): about 10 minutes a month
- Starter (30,000): about 30 minutes a month
- Creator (121,000): about 2 hours a month
- Pro (600,000): about 10 hours a month
Credits are charged when you generate, not when you download, and ElevenLabs shows you when a regeneration is free. In my own test I used about 1,200 credits for several short English, Hindi and Urdu clips.
Do unused ElevenLabs credits roll over?
Yes, on paid plans. According to the ElevenLabs FAQ, credits reset at the start of each billing cycle, and unused credits roll over for up to two months, capped at twice your monthly quota. This only works while you have an active paid plan without a downgrade or cancellation. Free plan credits don’t roll over. If you upgrade, your unused credits move with you.
ElevenLabs free plan: what you get

- Downloads work: in my test I downloaded my Urdu voiceovers as MP3 files on the free plan.

Is ElevenLabs worth the price? My test results
I tested ElevenLabs in October 2026 with the same English script I use for every voice tool, plus Hindi, Roman Hindi and Urdu lines. I gave it 4.6 out of 5 and 9/10 for voice quality, the highest of every voice tool I’ve tested. Hindi and Urdu were perfect or very good. For Urdu, use the Eleven v3 or v4 model; the older models don’t support it.

- Audiobooks or heavy daily use: Pro ($99) for about 10 hours a month and higher-quality audio.
- Teams: Scale or Business, which add seats and team features.
If you’ll use ElevenLabs for more than ten months, yearly billing saves you two months’ cost.

Paying, cancelling and refunds
- Payment: ElevenLabs says it accepts credit cards, Apple Pay and Google Pay. PayPal isn’t listed. If you’re in Pakistan or India, use a card that works for international payments.
- Cancelling: you can cancel any time. Your plan stays active until the end of the billing cycle, then moves to the free plan, and unused paid credits expire.
- Refunds: the ElevenLabs help center says you can get a refund if you ask within 14 days of payment and haven’t used any credits in that period. Its terms also say refunds are at ElevenLabs’ discretion, and app store purchases are refunded through Apple or Google.

ElevenLabs isn’t the cheapest per hour, but it had the most natural voices in my tests and handles Urdu and Hindi well, so for many creators the extra cost is worth it.
